Decorative Candle Making

Decorative candle making is probably the most fun of it all. It lets you use your own imagination and creativity to make special themed candles and fit specific designs or occasions.

This article covers some of the easiest and most enjoyable decorative candle projects around. Try, innovate, and enjoy!

Sticker candles

To make sticker candles, you would need the following: a few taper candles, stickers for the theme that you want to develop, sealing wax, and a melting pot.

First, attach the stickers to the taper candles. If you have no plans of lighting the candles later on, you can place the stickers anywhere on the candles.

But if you do plan to light the candles later on, we recommend that you place the stickers near the middle section of the candles.

After placing the stickers, start melting the sealing wax. When the sealing wax has melted adequately, dip the taper candles and coat the candles evenly on all sides. Make sure that the parts where the stickers are located are covered with sealing wax. Allow the sealing wax to dry. Wrap the candles.

Floating candles

To make floating candles, you would need a candle mold with wide top and tapered bottom. With a wider top, the decorative candle will float easily on water. Wax is less dense than water, so it naturally floats.

First, melt the wax in your double boiler or melting pot. When the wax has melted adequately, add the dye and perfumed oil. Mix the wax well to incorporate all the ingredients. When the dye has been incorporated into the wax, you can start pouring.

Using oven mitts, pour the wax into the candle molds (place the wicks first before pouring!). Let the wax harden for 15 minutes before doing anything else. During this time, the wax solidifies and slowly becomes opaque. The liquid appearance will slowly disappear, starting from the exterior of the new candle.

If you have some candle glitters, you can add the glitters to the mix before pouring into the molds. Make sure that you add just the right amount of glitters to produce a well-distributed effect on the candles. Too many glitters can produce saturated and unattractive candles.

When the wax has hardened enough, pop the candles out.

Congratulations, you now have your very own floating candles!

If you have a spare ceramic bowl at home with sufficient depth, you can fill that bowl with water and some rose petals. Place the floating candles inside and treat yourself to a relaxing ambiance at home.
