Soy Candle Making Supplies
Soy candles are fast becoming the choice for candle making enthusiasts who do not like the idea of working with petroleum-based candle wax.
Why use soy wax?
Paraffin wax seems to be the obvious choice for making candles, so why should we shift to soy wax?
There are several benefits of using soy wax to paraffin or other types of synthetic wax.
Soy wax candles burn brighter and longer than other kinds of wax. There is less soot to deal with, so using candles at home becomes safer and more practical too. Imagine that a large jar candle with soy wax can burn for more than ten hours continuously.
If you are going for aromatherapy, soy would be a great choice of wax to make with your favorite essential oils. Turn your home into your very own aromatherapy salon!
In some countries, when you buy soy wax, you are actually supporting soy farmers as well. Apart from the economic aspects of using soy wax, soy itself is a renewable source of wax. And unlike other types of wax, you can simply and easily enough clean up soy wax spill with warm water and some soap.
Kits, kits, kits!
What does a soy candle kit usually contain?
Expect at least 1 pound of soy wax, glass containers or jars (can be used to make jar candles), essential oils or perfumed oils, wicks, and of course, some instructions on how to make the candles.
Different kits have different types of wax and wicks – so make sure that you look at what the kit actually offers before buying it.
If you want to buy individual supplies needed for soy candles instead of getting the whole kit, it is recommended that you choose a candle making project first so you can choose the right supplies. For example, high-grade cotton wicks are the most suitable for making jar candles and votive candles.
For tealight candles, make sure that you buy cotton wicks with metal tabs. Note that when you order wicks online, each package or unit usually contains 50 wicks or more. Some larger packages contain 100 wicks each, plus extra glass jars. These wick packs usually cost less than $10 each.
